GRAYLING, Mich. - When in a combat zone, or entering a secure area, many things can help mean the difference between whether or not a soldier stays safe or becomes a potential casualty. One of the things that helps keep a soldier safe is proper search techniques.
Soldiers of the Camp Grayling based 1434th Engineer Company learned and practiced proper search techniques on their May 2009 annual training.
Sergeant Jason Denman of Munising, a 10 year corrections officer, helped to instruct the solders of the 1434th proper search techniques.
Denman said proper search techniques are important for one big reason, safety. “It is important that a safe environment is always maintained and no forbidden objects are introduced, be it to a United States base, or even just an area that you are trying to secure. This helps to ensure the safety of both soldiers and civilians alike.”
Pfc. Williejames Profit of Escanaba learned a lot from the training and the instructor. “Sergeant Denman brought good personal experience to the training with his corrections officer background. He was able to help make sure that everyone was able to learn the techniques well and take something away from the training. Sgt. Denman was more thorough than my basic training instructors were. “
Pfc. Aaron Pepin of Escanaba also enjoyed the training and learned a lot. “This is a training that I would recommend to anyone who is willing to learn it. It is something that definitely be used in a lot of basic soldier tasks.”
