    80th Training Command (Reserve)

RICHMOND, Va. - Staff Sgt. William Fleming’s induction into the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club represents the third accomplishment on his military bucket list.

The Reserve Soldier completed airborne and air assault schools while on active duty, and now has his sights on becoming a drill sergeant and ultimately a command sergeant major.

“This is my most significant achievement in the military so far,” said Fleming a Utilities Equipment Repairer, assigned to C 3rd-399th, 800th Logistics Support Brigade, 80th Training Command.

The 80th TC inducted Fleming, who’s also the runner-up in the command’s 2015 Best Warrior Competition, into the SAMC United States Army Reserve Chapter, during a ceremony at the command headquarters, Richmond, Va., April, 17, 2015.

Brig. Gen. Richard Torres, deputy commander 80th TC, who presided over the ceremony, told Fleming that he’s now a leader amongst leaders.

“You’re making a statement,” Torres said. “You’re trying to take care of Soldiers, you’re training them, you’re developing them you’re making them better.”

SAMC candidates are formally recommended for membership based on their leadership abilities, and for showing genuine concern for Soldiers and the Soldiers' families. The competitors then appear before a panel of senior NCOs for a painstaking verbal examination.

“He really is the top NCO (noncommissioned officer) in my formation, I can say that without reservation,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Jeff Darlington, the 800th LSB’s senior NCO. “He was the second unanimous recommendation ever, in the 80th Training Command.”

The SAMC, named after the United States Military's most decorated veteran, is a private U.S. Army organization for enlisted non-commissioned officers that began at Fort Hood Texas in 1986.

Fleming said, he wants to be an example for others to help them strive to be better.
