    U.S. Army Career Program 26

WASHINGTON – Career Program 26 – Manpower and Force Management’s road show visited Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) at Fort Eustis, Virginia, to speak about CP26 and professional development April 8.

TRADOC invited CP26 to talk with members of their more than 200 strong CP26 community about a wide range of issues that included civilian career management, competencies and the opportunities available to Army careerists. Beryl Hancock, chief, Manpower Policy, Plans and Program and chief of the CP26 Proponency Office, welcomed the chance to emphasize the role manpower and force management serves for the Army particularly during times of fiscal uncertainty. In addition to speaking to CP26 careerists at Fort Eustis, TRADOC also extended the presentation to their subordinate units and schools via teleconference.

“I greatly appreciate the opportunity to visit organizations where they are. To meet and greet civilian careerists and hear their concerns directly prompts me to rethink our communications strategy,” said Hancock. “The Army is reshaping and manpower and force managers will help lead that change. As the functional proponent, it is my job to prepare them for the challenge.”

TRADOC's primary functions are to recruit and train Soldiers, support unit training, develop adaptive leaders - both Soldier and civilian - guide the Army through doctrine, and shape the Army by building and integrating formations, capabilities and materiel.

The “road show” is an outreach program created by the CP26 Proponency designed to reach out directly to manpower and force managers across the Army. The CP26 Proponency Office staff is keen to promote professional growth and advancement, and to ensure the community retains and remains its vitality.

“The ‘road show’ is one of several communication avenues we use to share information about our discipline and community,” said Hancock. “The CP26 Proponency Office wants to ensure that the Army’s manpower and force managers are the best prepared they can be in such an uncertain and ever changing environment.”

CP26 provides a professional cadre of manpower and force management professionals to design, develop and resource the Army’s operating and generating forces in support of the National Military Strategy. It is one of the Army’s centrally managed civilian career programs and is composed primarily of management analysts who work in one or more of the nine manpower and force management functional areas.

Because of this functional diversity, CP26 analysts work in a variety of organizations such as resource management, plans and training, and documentation at installations and major commands across the Army.

“I want to thank Ms. Susan Anthony and Mr. Paul Hilton for inviting me to visit and talk,” said Hancock. “It is always great to share knowledge, ideas and best practices with fellow manpower and force managers.”
