Mobilization and Deployment, DPTMS Fort Bliss

FORT BLISS, Texas – The 192nd Military Police Detachment, Nebraska Army National Guard, deployed April 7, from the Silas L. Copeland Arrival/Departure Air Control Group airfield to conduct law and order operations in the Middle East.

Commanded by 1st Lt. Eric Otte, the platoon-sized element’s goal is to accomplish the mission successfully and return everybody back safely. This is Otte’s first deployment and he expressed his excitement about it.

“I got about half that have been deployed and the other half is their first deployment,” said Otte. “My senior leadership is all seasoned so it’s a huge blessing, they have done this mission before. So, this is nothing new to them, and they help train up the younger soldiers to get the job done.”

According to Lt. Col. Eric Hunsberger, commander of the 402nd Military Police Interment and Resettlement Battalion located in Omaha, Nebraska, the 192nd MP Detach. has been conducting the same mission for the past five years. Given the historical experience of the unit and combined with Soldiers that have law enforcement backgrounds in their civilian life, Hunsberger believes the unit will do a great job on this deployment.

“It’s a very disciplined unit, they are very cohesive and they will do an awesome job,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Richard Cruickshank, senior non-commissioned officer for the 402nd MP (I/R) Bn.

The leadership of the 402nd MP (I/R) Bn. and the 192nd MP Detach. thank the services provided to them from the Mobilization and Deployment offices of the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security of Fort Bliss, Texas, stating they were well taken care of while down here at Fort Bliss, training.

“I think the overall command structure has been very adaptable to the needs of not only the unit but the forward mission requirements as well,” said Hunsberger. “I think a good example of that is putting them into exactly what they were going to do in theater.”

Yet, the command still recognizes that all this could not be made possible without the support of the Families back in Nebraska City, Nebraska, that sacrifice just as much for the mission.

“We want to thank the school board and the fire department for sending us off in a great fashion,” said Otte. “Without the great support of the community that we were in, well it wouldn’t work for us. We are real happy to be from there and be a part of that community.”
