4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division
JURF AS SAHKAR, Iraq – Coalition forces, Iraqi army and Iraqi police visited Jurf As Sahkar, Jan. 21, demonstrating their various roles working together for the town's security.
Brig. Gen. Edward Cardon, deputy commander of Multi-National Division - Center and Col. Thomas James, commander of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, met with Iraqi leaders including the sheik Sabah, the mayor of Jurf As Sahkar
The group of officials discussed security improvements in Jurf. Sheik Sabah said he was honored and pleased the officials visited his town, acknowledging improvements in security and economic progress. Sheik Sabah said the Concerned Local Citizens program has halted operations by al-Qaida and other extremist groups throughout the Jurf area.
After the meeting, the officials went out to the street to visit and talk with local shop owners and citizens in the village.
"It was a good visit," said Lt. Col. Timothy Newsome, commander of 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment. "A lot was accomplished in terms of relaying to the provincial government what the needs are for the community to complete its transformation into a peaceful town with a stable government and a solid infrastructure."
Also present at the meeting were members of the provincial council, Babil's deputy governor, Brig. Gen. Fadil Radam, chief of the Hillah police, and Brig. Gen. Abd al Ameer Kamil, commander of the 2nd Brigade, 8th Iraqi Army.
