NASHVILLE – The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) walked away with top honors at the Aviation Association of America, or Quad A, sponsored 2015 Army Aviation Mission Solutions Summit, March 30-31, at the Gaylord Opry Convention Center in Nashville, Tn.
The two-day summit is the latest annual gathering of U.S. Army Aviation leaders and the companies that support critical operations around the globe. Panels discussed solutions to problems facing the warfighter and recognized several U.S. Army aviators and their units for their accomplishments over the past year.
Two Soldiers with the 160th walked away with two such awards: the James H. McClellan Aviation Safety Award and the Michael J. Novosel Army Aviator of the Year Award.
Chief Warrant Officer 4 Michael Siler, 1st Battalion, 160th SOAR (A), was the sixth Nightstalker to receive the Michael J. Novosel award since its inception. Siler has earned the Silver Star and a Purple Heart during his time with the regiment, and uses his skills learned over a lifetime of aviation to plan and coordinate the unique missions of his unit ensuring the delivery of their precious cargo.
Sgt. First Class Eric Wright, Company B, Special Operations Aviation Training Battalion, was presented the James H. McClellan award for his outstanding individual contribution to Army aviation safety in the previous calendar year. Wright, serving as both the company’s safety NCO and officer, executed 10 site surveys for the unit’s offsite training areas, the safe execution of 10,000 flying hour program, and the training of all civilians, contractors, and active duty personnel within the organization. He is the fourth Nightstalker to win this award.
The summit hosted more than 200 representatives from 22 countries, and saw the attendance of more than 5,000 Army aviators and civilians at the event.
