    NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Col. Tommy H. Baker, of Huntingdon, Tenn., was promoted to Brigadier General in a ceremony held at Tennessee National Guard Headquarters on Saturday, March 7, 2015. Baker is assigned as the Assistant Adjutant General-Army, Tennessee National Guard and is responsible for the training and supervision of the more than 13,000 Soldiers in the Tennessee Army National Guard.

    Maj. Gen. Max Haston, Tennessee’s Adjutant General, along with Brig. Gen. Tommy Baker’s son, Cody, pinned the silver star insignia on Baker’s uniform. His wife, Camille and daughter, Hillari, observed along with numerous family members, friends and fellow Soldiers and Airmen.

    Brig. Gen. Baker enlisted on December 17, 1980, as a 19D Cavalry Scout at Troop B, 230th Cavalry in Huntingdon, Tenn., where he served as an enlisted Soldier until June 1984. Upon receiving his commission from the Tennessee Military Academy, Brig. Gen. Baker served as a Cavalry and Armor Officer, Maintenance and Logistics Officer and in various command and staff assignments within the Tennessee Army National Guard. Most recently, Baker served as the J-4, Director of Logistics for Joint Force Headquarters-Tennessee. As the J-4, he was responsible for the logistics and maintenance operations of the Tennessee Army and Air National Guard.

    He was commissioned in 1985 and is a 1995 graduate of the University of Tennessee-Martin with a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration. He received his master’s degree in Business Administration Military Management from Touro University, and is a 2011 graduate of the United States Army War College with a master’s in Strategic Studies.

    Brig. Gen. Baker deployed to Kuwait in 2004 as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom III, serving as the Theater Combat Service Support Automation Management Officer, and again in 2008 as the Commander of the 30th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion at Q-West, Iraq.
