“A heritage room is an assembly of all of the memorabilia that 2nd LAR has accumulated since its inception in 1983,” said Gunnery Sgt. Christopher Hall, the training chief for 2nd LAR and native of Jacksonville, North Carolina.
Items displayed in the room include awards and trophies the battalion has won, photographs, and donated items from Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield.
The building used to be a warehouse, Hall explained. Hall, with the help of a few fellow Marines, did all of the labor to renovate the room himself, using his own tools and materials, over the course of about six months.
The room will be used as a place for the staff noncommissioned officers and officers of the battalion to receive classes, bond and build camaraderie.
