Military Saves Week kicks off a year-long campaign for financial readiness, March 1-7.
During the Week each year, thousands of organizations reach out to millions of people with resources, education and assistance to help military service members assess their saving status.
The Week helps improve financial aptitude in many ways, including how to saving for emergencies, create long term goals, reduce debt and build wealth.
"Saving money is especially important for service members as they change duty stations, ranks, and helps them keep up their credit scores," said James S. Lander, the Military Saves Director.
Savings prepare individuals for the unexpected, like deployments, car troubles or family issues. Saving can also help prepare for expected changes, like a new car, new home, or transition out of the military.
"We know that the first steps to saving can often be the hardest," said Sgt. Maj. Bryan B. Battaglia, the Senior Enlisted Advisor of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
To ease those first steps to saving, the Military Saves campaign offers assistance setting and tracking goals.
For help setting goals, e-mail Military Saves at info@militarysaves.org, or call Dale Wilkes, the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort financial advisor, at 228-7055. To track goals, Military Saves provides a tracking report at http://www.militarysaves.org/organizations/military-saves-week/tracking-success
Being prepared is a vital task for all Marines, extending far beyond combat. Being prepared and planning ahead helps Marines perform their best in every aspect of life.
