CORREGIDOR, Philippines - U.S. Army Pacific staff, Philippine Army staff, U.S. Embassy staff, veterans, families and friends gathered for the 70th Commemoration of the Retaking or Corregidor
A special service and wreath laying ceremonies honored those Filipino, American and Allied Soldiers that gave all for the freedom of the Philippines. Special mention of General Douglas MacArthur was made throughout the ceremony and the attendees were given a tour of the island and the main battle sites / memorials. Maj. Gen. James F. Pasquarette, Deputy Commanding General of U.S. Army Pacific presented remarks on behalf of the U.S. Army. The ceremony was attended by 1st Lt. Adam Obregon, the grandson of a paratrooper that assaulted the island with the 503rd Parachute Regimental Combat Team. Obregon now belongs to the same unit as his grandfather and attended to honor his memory. Lt. Gen Hernando Iriberri, Commander of the Philippine Army also attended in honor of this event.
