FORT POLK, La. - Patriots Brigade is strategically placed in the Army’s full spectrum operational training area, Fort Polk, Louisiana, “Home of the Heroes.” This advantageous location allows 4th BCT the opportunity to train with its 10th Mountain Division sister units through their training rotation at Fort Polk’s JRTC.

The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division strategically deployed their unit to Fort Polk JRTC from Jan. 4, 2015, to Feb. 6, 2015, to participate in a Culminating Training Event with other active duty units and reserve component units in preparations for future deployments. Their objectives were to increase their interoperability in a joint environment, while testing their systems and networks, equipment and mission command procedures. The Patriots Soldiers were on ground to support their three-week exercise with technical knowledge, logistical resources and more than 500 operational role players to give them the most realistic enemy engagements possible.

Staff Sgt. Alissa Randall, Military Intelligence, stated going through rotation not so long ago helped her to use her experience while supporting the 1st BCT.

“My support was more toward the enlisted side. Really to show them simple things like rehearsals, putting up a Deployable Rapid Shelter and training on their systems really helped,” said Randall.

Some of the most critical expertise to the 1BCT were logistics, intelligence, medical and aviation support that came from the Patriots unit. Their roles were to observe unit performance, control engagements and operations, re-enforce doctrinal proficiency, and coach leaders to improve unit performance.

As logistical officers, Maj. Steve Robinson and Capt. Daniel Dexter, 82nd Airborne, were liaisons and provided the units with resources to enhance their equipment capabilities.

“Coming from a Combat Sustainment Support Battalion and doing previous rotations at JRTC, I was familiar with supporting Brigade Support Battalion and Sustainment Brigade ISB operations. They assigned me to assist the battalion logistics officer based off my background,” said Dexter.

The 10th Mountain Division Soldiers strategically build on the skills, expertise and experience that is already present in their ranks. They maximize their war fighting skills through two organizations, integrated capabilities, internal and external evaluations and assessments of training, and by applying innovative concepts stemming from this division’s professionally trained leaders.
