YOKOSUKA, Japan - Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 4 and NMCB 5 recently held a turnover ceremony at Camp Shields, Okinawa, Feb. 14, 2015, recognizing the significant work done during NMCB 4’s 7th Fleet deployment.
NMCB 4 has been deployed in the 7th Fleet area of operations for the last 6 months and has supported the completion of 27 construction projects to include two medical clinics and three community centers.
NMCB 4 also helped construct four new school houses for different partner nations, working closely with local authorities. One significant joint project was in Timor-Leste with the local Ministry of Education completing a school house that is 56 feet by 31 feet with a concrete foundation, strong block walls and a metal roof. Timor-Leste engineers assisted during portions of the project by providing concrete, masonry, and electrical construction.
While deployed to 7th Fleet, NMCB 4 trained for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief contingencies in the region, provided support to the Third Marine Expeditionary Force, and held numerous other field training and communication exercises.
NMCB 5 will continue to provide construction projects and support forward presence for 7th Fleet executing critical missions across seven countries and construction engagements at six locations.
NMCB 4 has returned to their homeport in Port Hueneme, Calif., to begin training for their 2016 deployment.
