    7th Mission Support Command

DAENNER KASERNE, Germany – U.S. Army Europe’s senior enlisted Soldier visited 7th Civil Support Command troops Jan. 10.

Command Sgt. Maj. David Davenport, senior enlisted leader, USAREUR, and a native of Nashville, Tennessee, toured the U.S. Army Reserve’s only Europe-based command.

“I like to be able to tell you the behind-the-scenes stuff,” Davenport said during a lengthy meeting with senior 7th CSC noncommissioned officers, after he received an initial command brief from Command Sgt. Maj. James J. Murrin, 7th CSC.

Some of the topics discussed during the question-and-answer session were the new NCO evaluation report, NCO education and schools, physical training standards and testing, and the Master Fitness Course.

The primary purpose of the trip was his farewell visit of the only Army Reserve Headquarters stationed in Europe. In less than a month, Davenport will move on to his next assignment as the new TRADOC senior enlisted leader.

“He is an extremely strategic thinking individual and he seems to have a common sense approach to things,” Master Sgt. Rick Silva the 7th CSC’s senior command career counselor and Merced, California, said, “Every topic he spoke on included his view on the ‘big picture.’ He impressed upon us to consider long-term effects and how we must make decisions based on long-term ramifications.”

Silva said Davenport also explained the thought process behind the new NCOER and the significant paradigm shift that will occur once it is implemented Army wide.

Afterward, Davenport ate lunch with Soldiers at the dining facility, and then he watched a tactical radio communication demonstration by Soldiers from the 361st Civil Affairs Brigade.

“I’ve seen him before when I was with the 1st Armored Division,” said Staff Sgt. Anthony Neal, a radio chief with the 7th CSC’s 457th Civil Affairs Battalion and a Dallas native. “Every time I’ve seen him talk, it's always down to earth. I like that.”

Neal is not just a 7th CSC Army Reserve Soldier; he is also the owner of a new small business, a gym in Wiesbaden, Germany.

“During all my visits here, I am always impressed with the 7th CSC Soldiers,” Davenport said. “They have very interesting backgrounds. I am impressed about how these citizen Soldiers can balance their personal life with service to their country.”

Silva also commented on the significance of Davenport’s visit to the 7th CSC.

“For him to take time out of his schedule, to spend a day with us shows how much he values the contributions from the 7th CSC and the USAR,” Silva said. “He understands what our Soldiers bring to the table here in USAREUR and throughout the Army.”
