Story by Lance Cpl. Neysa Huertas Quinones

    II Marine Expeditionary Force

HAVELOCK, N.C. - The Havelock Military Affairs Committee presented Lance Cpl. Zachary A. Davidson and his family with the Military Family of the Quarter award during a ceremony in Havelock, N.C., Jan. 27.

The ceremony was a small way for Havelock MAC and the local community to express appreciation for the dedicated volunteer service of the Davidson family.

Davidson is a military police officer with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. In addition to his daily duties, Davidson participates in local community outreach events along with numerous charitable, educational, religious and development projects within the Havelock community.

“My family and I have always found joy in volunteering together,” said Davidson, a native of Memphis, Tenn. “We are heavily involved in our church’s community efforts. We see it as a great way to give back to people.”

The Davidson family has continuously supported missionary efforts by sending care packages to children around the world. Additionally, the Davidson’s have sponsored several home-schooled children, volunteer regularly at soup kitchens and various other organizations to support people in need.

“We affect everyone around us by the actions we decide to take,” said Davidson. “We are all a part of our community and should strive to help others to create a place we are proud of.”

According to Davidson, volunteering has always been important to him. He constantly informs peers about volunteer opportunities and the importance of giving back.

“We were shocked when we were informed our family would be receiving the award,” said Davidson’s wife, Crystal. “We never volunteer to receive recognition and we did not know the command and other members of the community would be so interested in our involvements.”

According to the couple, they value both the community and the Marine Corps and use volunteering to give back to others. The family devotes countless hours to benefit others in need as they believe it is both a responsibility and an honor to serve others.

“My family finds joy in helping others and we encourage everyone to give back to others as much as they can,” said Crystal. “There are many people in our community, including some service members, who rely on others volunteering to lend them a hand. My family strongly believes in sharing our good fortune with those in need.”
