SOUTHWEST ASIA – The acts of violence that occurred today in Iraq show ISIL’s willingness to attack the ordinary citizens of Iraq. These were acts of desperation and show ISIL’s callousness to attack even those who were offering aid to victims. ISIL cannot win against the Iraqi people but only frighten them.
Our condolences to the victims of today’s atrocities and we salute the strength of the Iraqi people who stand firm against them.
The coalition is resolved to assist Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) in their fight against ISIL. The ISF have successfully pushed far into areas formerly controlled by ISIL in their efforts to eradicate them.
We stand with the Iraqi government.
