    3rd Combat Aviation Brigade

HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. – Several Soldiers from the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade are deploying for the very first time to support missions around the world early in January.

The bulk of the deploying troops are coming from the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment.

Marietta, Georgia, native, Pvt. Kamron Burrus, Company C, 2nd Bn., 3rd Aviation Reg., has only been in the Army for eight months, but said he is ready for his first deployment.

“The closer I get to showtime, the more I am realizing where I am about to go and what I’m about to do,” Burrus said.

Burrus is an aviation operations specialist and will be joining a group who will be assuming a MEDEVAC mission in Afghanistan.
“I’m looking forward to getting the experience. I found out I was deploying two weeks after I graduated from advanced individual training and I’m ready to go,” Burrus said.

Also deploying for the first time is 1st Lt. Taylor Pearce, also from Company C, 2nd Bn., 3rd Aviation Reg., who hails from North Royalton, Ohio. Pearce has been in the Army almost four years and says she is ready for the challenge.

“I’m very excited, a little bit nervous, but I’m ready to go,” Pearce said. “We’ve done a lot of training and we will finally get the opportunity to put it to use.”

Pearce was accompanied by her husband David Ridge, and her son Ian. Ridge said he knows what she is going through and is excited for his wife.

“I hope she gets to do something exciting that she’s been training for,” Ridge said.

Not all of the troops deploying are going for their first time. One of the veterans of the group was Chief Warrant Officer 2 Matthew Anderson, Company C, 2nd Bn., 3rd Aviation Reg. Anderson, a Syracuse, New York native, returned a little over a year ago from a deployment to Afghanistan. Anderson said his group is a mix of first timers and experienced veterans.

“We got a good mix this time,” Anderson said. “We’ve put a lot of thought into the different crews. There’s a good mix of experience along with the newer people and we’re expecting great things.”
Before the Soldiers left to board the plane, Lt. Col. Jason Roncoroni, commander, 2nd Bn., 3rd Aviation Reg., reassured the families who were present to see their loved ones off.

“The unit that these Soldiers are going to over there is a phenomenal unit,” Roncoroni said. “These men and women will be well taken care of when they are deployed. Myself, my sergeant major, and my entire team are here to support you and your families while they are deployed. We are all in this together.”
