FORT LEE, Va. - The public is invited to a Community Listening Session on Army 2020 End Strength Reductions at the Army Logistics University on Fort Lee, 6 p.m., Jan. 8, 2015. This is a chance for local officials and community members to comment on proposed force structure decisions analyzed in a recent Supplemental Programmatic Environmental Assessment.

As a result of current budgetary projections, the SPEA analyzed the impacts of a potential reduction of Soldiers and associated Army Civilians across the Army, down to an active component end-strength of 420,000. These reductions meet spending levels required by the Budget Control Act of 2011. The subsequent Finding of No Significant Impact released in November included the Army's determination that there are no significant impacts other than socioeconomic at the 30 installations analyzed, including Fort Lee.

Fort Lee was assessed on a loss of up to 3,600 Soldiers and civilian employees. That figure includes 879 reductions that were already made with the realignment of units and personnel associated with the now-inactivated 49th Quartermaster Group.

Decisions on which units and organizations will be selected for reductions have not yet been made. Potential impacts, including those identified in comments received from the public, are being considered as final force structure decisions are made.

A subject matter expert from Department of Army headquarters will be at the listening session to provide an overview of the stationing decision process and to take comments and questions. Time will be provided for community officials and citizens to provide their input and ask questions.

For more information on the listening session, call the Fort Lee Public Affairs Office at (804) 734-7451.
