FORT HOOD, Texas – The Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, moved brigade-wide operations from the everyday confines of their offices to the freedom of Mother Nature for the first two weeks of December at Fort Hood, Texas.
In preparation for an upcoming rotation at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California, the 3rd ABCT aimed to develop and maintain core war-fighting competencies at the crew and unit level to set conditions for a successful training this spring. The brigade performed platoon-level training to improve the unit’s overall readiness and responsiveness.
In addition to the brigade’s regular units, several additional units are scheduled to join the April west coast training session. The Fort Riley, Kansas-based 3rd Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment and 4th Battalion-17th Infantry Battalion from Fort Bliss, Texas, will join the “Greywolf” brigade at NTC. The brigade uses opportunities like the recent training rotation to build interoperability and to practice operational procedures prior to arriving in California.
