LAGHMAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – U.S. Congressman Reid Ribble, a Republican representative from Wisconsin visited Tactical Base Gamberi Nov. 22, 2014.
Ribble was accompanied by Rep. Rob Wittman from Virginia, Rep. Madeleine Bordallo from Guam, Rep. Bill Flores from Texas, Rep. Mike Coffman from Colorado and Rep. Dave Loebsack from Iowa. The members of Congress went to visit the troops for the holidays and assess the situation in Afghanistan.
The congressional visit started with lunch at the dining facility. The representatives sat and ate with members of 3rd Cavalry Regiment and 3rd Infantry Division. Soldiers had opportunities to talk to their own state representatives. Ribble discussed a myriad of different topics from hunting back home to foreign affairs and the State of the Union.
Col. Cameron Cantlon, 3rd Cavalry Regiment commander and Ettrick, Wisconsin native, discussed daily life of soldiers on TB Gamberi. Ribble replied with his daily activities as a congressman back in the states. The Wisconsin citizens soldiering in Afghanistan left with a better understanding of the political situation back in the U.S. Congressmen Ribble had the opportunity to reach out and see what the concerns of the Wisconsin-born soldiers in Afghanistan.
