QUANTICO, Va. - Brig. Gen. Joseph Shrader, commander of Marine Corps Systems Command, announced the selection of an executive director for the command Thursday afternoon.
James Smerchansky, previously the chief engineer of the Marine Corps and deputy commander for Systems Engineering, Interoperability, Architecture and Technology, will assume the role of executive director. Previously, Smerchansky held engineering and leadership positions at Naval Sea Combat Systems Engineering Station, Naval Sea Systems Command and MCSC. An acquisition professional of 29 years, Smerchansky holds a master's in engineering management and is level III certified in both program management and advanced systems planning, research, development and engineering.
During his time at MCSC, Smerchansky "led change that has not only improved the performance and reliability of Marine Corps ground systems, but has established a culture of technical discipline that positively and substantially impacted the affordability and capability of our systems," said Shrader.
No announcement was made regarding filling Smerchanksy's current position at MCSC.
