3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division

SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii – Soldiers assigned to 3rd Regiment, 7th Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, conducted a release run in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Oct. 24.

Since 1987, October has been observed as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, with the intent to mourn those who have died because of domestic violence, celebrate those who have survived it and to connect those who continue work to end the violence.

Leah Teglovic, victim advocate for Army Community Service (ACS), is one of several serving here in the Family Advocacy Program office working hard to eliminate this type of violence within our Army family.

Teglovic said, “The intent of the run is to increase awareness of domestic violence prevention and educate the community about resources available to them.”

There were other units that came out and supported 3-7FA. They also made it into a little competition to see who was going to place first in the six-mile run.

Lt. Col. George Hammar, commander of 3-7 FA BN, hosted the same run last year and thought that it would be great to do it again.

“I remembered Lt. Col. Hammar liked to run, so I reached out to him in hopes that he would be interested in doing the run again. 3-7 FA was outstanding in hosting the run,” said Teglovic.

Everyone’s help made the run a success, said Sgt. 1st Class Antwan Jackson, assigned to HHC 3-7 FA, who helped put this run together.

Top three fastest male and female were awarded first, second and third place and bragging rights.

The purpose of the run was to educate community members that strong partnerships and the utilization of resources are helpful. Education at all levels is necessary to understand the dynamics of domestic violence.

The Army has many resources available to help families cope with stressors, such as finances, isolation, and parenting. The Family Advocacy Program also offers briefings and classes unit leadership.

“I would like to add that it was a privilege working with 3-7 FA to organize this run,” said Teglovic. “Everyone was great, and it was very clear that 3-7 FA is committed to domestic violence awareness and prevention.”
