BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan – Some service members might avoid making a trip to the post office for a few different reasons, but standing in long and slow moving lines may be at the top of the list.
The Click-N-Ship program was created by the U.S. Postal Service. It allows customers to print out prepaid shipping labels and prepare their own packages for shipping right at home or office.
Labels may be created for the standard USPS flat rate and
non-flat rate boxes, however, non-flat rate boxes can only be used if they meet the weight requirement, said Staff Sgt. Javier Rodriguez, human resources operations branch noncommissioned officer assigned to the 10th Sustainment Brigade.
The Army implemented the program to help speed up the postal operations process.
Since August 2013, service members have been able to access Click-N-Ship from any location where a computer and printer are available or from a local post office in Afghanistan.
Click-N-Ship can help save service members time and get discounts off retail shipping prices as well as providing a way to track their packages with free delivery confirmation.
“It’s incredibly easy to use,” said Sgt. Randy Cavazos, a Harlingen, Texas, native, command group noncommissioned officer in charge. “After setting up an account, I had my labels within minutes.”
Customers who use the program to mail a package save between 10 and 14 percent in shipping costs versus the traditional process of standing in line at the post office, said Rodriguez.
“Because the program is implemented in a contingency environment, customers learned that the most valuable asset that deserves to be cherished is their personal time,” said Rodriguez. “The Click-N-Ship allows customers to spend less time at the post office and reduces the frustration associated with mailing a package.”
