    316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary)

CORAOPOLIS, Pa. – Col. Richard C. Staats took over the reins of the 316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) from Brig. Gen. Bud R. Jameson Jr., in a ceremony officiated by Maj. Gen. Leslie J. Carroll, commander of the 377th Theater Sustainment Command, at the T/Sgt Vernon McGarity U.S. Army Reserve Center here, Sept. 13, 2014.

Jameson commanded the 316th ESC from November 2011 through September 2014. Under his leadership, the 316th ESC supported the Hurricane Sandy relief effort in 2012, deployed to Kuwait from 2012 to 2013 and provided 1989 Military Funeral Honors to Veterans in southwest Pennsylvania in 2013.

“It’s a bittersweet moment for me,” said Jameson. “I’m retiring after 41 years of being in uniform, and leaving the best unit in the U.S. Army. I hope I can continue to offer my experience and knowledge to the Army Reserve.” Jameson’s wife Roberta and two children also attended the ceremony.

The 316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) headquartered in Coraopolis, Pa., has mission command for all U.S. Army Reserve logistical units from Maine to Pennsylvania, comprised of four major subordinate commands and one direct reporting unit, totaling 89 units of approximately 8,000 Soldiers and civilians.

Staats reiterated Jameson’s opinions of the 316th.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be here. The 316th has a legacy of tremendous accomplishment that you should be rightly proud of,” Staats said.

He followed his comments on 316th accomplishments with his expectations of the Soldiers of the command.

The accomplishments “form the bedrock and a way for us forward because to whom much is given, much is expected, and there will be great expectations,” he said.

Staats previously commanded the 211th Regional Support Group and four deployed commands. He lives in Washington, D.C., and serves in his civilian capacity as the director for the Army Program at the MITRE Corporation, where he advises senior executives in the federal government.

Staats will be promoted to brigadier general in October 2014.
