AL UDEID AIR BASE, Qatar- The 379th Expeditionary Maintenance and Logistics Readiness Squadrons worked more than 3000 man hours to check and repair the fuel systems on the B-1B Lancer at Al Udeid Air Base Qatar, accomplishing the huge tasking in just over one week.

The 379th Air Expeditionary Wing received a command to accomplish a time compliance technical order on August 24th which was directed to the B-1B Lancer. B-1 fuel system engineers issued an immediate action to inspect vital components within the fuel system.

The 379th EMXS actively worked with the assistance from U.S. Air Forces Central Command, Air Combat Command and Air Force Materiel Command to complete the TCTO as quickly as possible.

“The TCTO was very much needed and prevented a catastrophic failure by identifying potential bad parts,” said Capt. Jenna Rederus, the 379th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron operations officer. “When looking back, there were numerous organizations on base that helped get these planes back together and mission ready.”

The positive effect was finding a potential issue and being able to inspect and replace the effected parts in order to ensure the operators are flying a safe, reliable aircraft.

“It took the maintainers with the 379th EMXS, specifically the fuels shop, non-destructive inspection shop, and metals technology along with the supply techs in LRS for nearly a week to sort out which parts were good, which were bad, where the spare parts would come from and when we would be able to get the B-1 back in the air,” said Rederus.

Airmen at Al Udeid Air Base Qatar, worked around the clock to supply parts and information in support of this 379th's mission.

“Even under the high interest pressure of this TCTO, everyone involved was able to remain calm and professional in order to get the jets back into the fight in a rapid manner,” said Rederus. “If you ask them, they'll tell you they were just doing their job, but to the people relying on them to get these planes ready to fly, they performed phenomenally.”
