TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The 181st Intelligence Wing participated in “Denim Day” today on base as part of sexual assault awareness and prevention month.

Indiana Adjutant General Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger declared April 24, 2014, “Denim Day” and that he was “authorizing and encouraging the wear of blue jeans and teal ribbons.”

April 2014 is the 10th annual Sexual Assault Awareness Month sponsored by the Department of Defense.

“It shows we support sexual assault awareness and prevention and are intolerant of sexual assault,” stated Capt. Leanna Edwards while proudly wearing her teal ribbon.

Denim Day was created to raise awareness for sexual assault and to provide services to those who may have or may become victims of sexual assault.

“We are looking out for our Airmen. We make sure there’s the widest dissemination of awareness,” stated Edwards.

At the 181st Intelligence Wing, sexual assault is not an issue that is treated lightly.

“The 181st Intelligence Wing does not tolerate criminal acts such as sexual assault,” stated Col. Patrick Renwick, 181st IW vice wing commander. “The 181st Intelligence Wing is a family and we take any sexual assault allegations we may receive seriously.”
