TIKRIT, Iraq— Completing multiple combat tours has become commonplace for Soldiers serving in today's Army. Since the Global War on Terrorism began, Soldiers have served in multiple theaters of combat primarily Iraq and Afghanistan.

There are not many Soldiers serving today who have completed two combat tours in Vietnam and a tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2006-2008. Chief Warrant Officer Robert Giebner, 1st Squadron, 82nd Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, began his first combat tour in 1969 flying utility helicopters or "Hueys." He was stationed at Thu-Hiep Air Field with the 134th Assault Helicopter Company where he received numerous awards and decorations for his service.

On Oct. 1, the 25th Infantry Division commander, Maj. Gen. Benjamin Mixon presented Giebner his 41st Air Medal in a ceremony held on Contingency Operating Base Speicher.

Giebner said, "I am very humbled. And it's very difficult to explain that... and I'm honored."

Chief Giebner also served a tour in Desert Shield/Dessert Storm. He then retired from active service for nearly nine years. When the country announced its war on terror, Giebner felt a sense of duty and he still had more to offer to his team so he returned to active duty.

"I also said if I had a chance to come back I would....frankly; I'm an Army Aviator, a Soldier, and I like being around these Soldiers serving in Iraq," he added.

In the very near future, Giebner is scheduled to start the journey back to Fort Bragg, N.C., after completing nearly 15 months of service in Iraq and offers this advice to all Soldiers serving in combat.

"Every single day you wake up in the morning and put your on uniform. You go out there and do your best so can come home safely."
