YELLOW SEA – The USS Bonhomme Richard Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) is conducting operations in the waters west of the Korean Peninsula April 15-18.

These operations are being conducted in international waters and are intended to reinforce regional stability and increase maritime interoperability, which is critical to maintaining readiness and operational proficiency. These operations include amphibious ready group exercises to include Combat Rubber Raiding Craft splash and recoveries, Landing Craft Air Cushion operations and air training.

U.S. Navy ships participating include the amphibious assault ship Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), with embarked Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU); the amphibious transport dock ship USS Denver (LPD 9); and the dock landing ship USS Ashland (LPD 48).

The U.S. Navy routinely operates off the Korean Peninsula and has conducted numerous operations and exercises in the area. In October 2013, the USS George Washington carrier strike group conducted similar operations in the waters west of the Korean Peninsula.

The United States is committed to security and economic stability of the Asia-Pacific and our forward presence in this region help ensure stability for all maritime nations. U.S. forward presence is in accordance with international law and contributes to freedom of navigation and overflight and other lawful uses of the sea, economic development and international commerce.
