MCGHEE TYSON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Tenn. -The I.G. Brown Training and Education Center welcomed about 150 leaders of the U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command here this week during their national training symposium.

The TEC's lodging, facilities and central location provided "the most cost-effective means" for the symposium, they said.

"The facility had so much to offer us," said Marine Corps Col. Kathy Maloney, commander of USMEPCOM. "It just seemed like a great choice."

Referred to as "freedom's front door," there are 65 MEP stations located in the United States and the Virgin Islands. Those stations evaluate potential members of the all-volunteer military force for standard qualifications, said Maloney.

The symposium's theme was "Reinforce the Course - Precision and Performance."

That included discussion and lectures on resource management, legal updates and issues, sexual assault response and prevention, and strategic planning, among other topics. Award and recognition ceremonies were also held.

The joint service members and federal civilian employees walked outside between TEC's lodging and dining facilities, auditorium and classrooms and fitness center during East Tennessee's fair, spring weather.

The group gathered at TEC's state-of-the-art, high-definition auditorium in Spruance Hall, but it also divided into afternoon working sessions in the Morrisey Hall classrooms.

"We have received nothing but phenomenal support from the facility as well as the staff here," said Maloney.
