MARINE CORPS AIR STATION NEW RIVER, N.C. -The waiting list Marines and their families endure while anticipating an open space at the Child Development Center (CDC) aboard Marine Corps Air Station New River will soon be lessened with the completion of a second facility.
“The need for child care is an on-going concern for service members and their families aboard the air station,” said Tim Cook, Children, Youth and Teen Program administrator. “With the opening of a second CDC the waiting list for care should shorten dramatically.”
The second CDC is currently undergoing construction and is tentatively set to open by the end of summer.
“We are expecting to have availabilities for about 80-100 more children,” said Cook. “This will also help with the influx of Marines to the air station due to the addition of two new squadrons being assigned here.”
Along with the additional space the CDC will create for the children, employment opportunities for daycare providers will be available.
“We are expecting to create about 25 additional jobs with the opening of the new facility,” said Cook. “Our goal with the new center is to clear the waiting list and be able to accommodate families as soon as they arrive in the area.”
The new CDC will be run the same as the current CDC and will also be held to the same accreditation standards set by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
The new CDC building is located by the air station bowling alley.
“I think it is great that they are supplying us with a second facility,” said Amanda J. Moore, CDC director. “The new building will allow us to better accommodate the needs of the service members and their families in a timelier manner.”
