    704th Military Intelligence Brigade

Soldiers with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 704th Military Intelligence Brigade, added a little competition to their weekly Army Warrior Tasks training when they took part in an Amazing Race Nov. 8 at Fort Meade, Md.

The adventure race began at Mullins Field, where the company normally forms up for physical training each morning. Soldiers divided into groups of four and began the competition in a staggered start. The first station required soldiers to disassemble weapons and then put them back together before receiving a clue to the location of the next challenge.

After receiving their clue, soldiers ran to the next station near the resiliency center, where they were required to complete Combat Life Saver tasks before receiving clues to the next location.

Staff Sgt. Jesse Collins, a brigade S3 operations noncommissioned officer, who was in charge of planning the event, said it went even better than he expected, though he might add more stations next time.

“I’ve had very positive feedback from the soldiers,” he said. “We might even do another Amazing Race next quarter.”

In total, the teams ran about three to four miles, depending on the route they took, to different stations set up around Fort Meade. They completed map reading and land navigation tasks, giving and following hand signals, developing a SITREP (situation report) and conducting vehicle searches.

Sgt. 1st Class Diane Noggin, the human resources noncommissioned officer in charge (NCOIC) for the 704th MI Bde., said she initially looked forward to this because she is an avid watcher of the Amazing Race television show.

“Actually my favorite part was the entire race,” she said. “It was great to see the teamwork and camaraderie within all the groups.”
After the scores were tallied, the winning teams were announced at the next morning’s formation. Members of the first place team won a three-day pass.
