    NATO Special Operations Component Command-Afghanistan

NANGARHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Afghan National Army commandos of the 1st Special Operations Kandak killed one insurgent Oct. 26 during clearing operations in Boti Kot district, Nangarhar province.

The insurgent was a known Taliban fighter carrying several rocket-propelled grenades as commandos cleared the Amber Khaney village in the district, reported commandos in the unit.

“During the operation we were able to kill a well-known Taliban fighter in the area,” said Capt. Sarbiland, 1st SOK commander. “He disturbed a lot of local people and he was fighting against our government.”

ANA commandos are an elite group that conducts high-risk operations in remote areas known to be enemy strongholds. These counterinsurgency missions assist national and local police in their efforts to increase security, governance and development.

“We have tried to capture him in the past, but we were not able to,” said Sarbiland. “Fortunately, in this operation, we were able to.”

“Afghan National Security Forces continue to combat insurgents operating in the area,” said Nimatullh Noorzai, Boti Kot district governor, confirming the death of the insurgent. “Their operations disrupt insurgent activities and protect the local people.”
