GEILENKIRCHEN, Germany - A group of noncommissioned officers, Geilenkirchen’s Team 5/6, held the fourth annual “Tri-Border Breast Cancer 5k Run/Walk” on Oct. 11 at NATO Air Base Geilenkirchen, Germany, to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM).
BCAM is an annual international health campaign, which takes place every October with events are held around the world to raise awareness of the disease and to collect funds for research into its cause, preventions, diagnosis, treat and cure as well as offering information and support to those affected by breast cancer.
The base’s BCAM event had more than 130 participants. Team 5/6 was able to collect 1,702 euros, approximately $2,295, to give to Breast Cancer Aid and Research Institute, which gives 99 percent of the money donated directly to the cause.
In addition, educational material was handed out to all participants to encourage exams for early detections and prevention of breast cancer.
