MARINE CORPS LOGISTICS BASE BARSTOW, Calif. - Marine Corps Community Services, on Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, Calif., held its 11th annual fall festival in the surrounding area of the base library, Sept. 26.

The event is put on every year to promote camaraderie between civilian employees and military members on base, said Jennifer Silva, MCCS marketing director here.

“Having events like these bring energy to the base,” said Col. Michael L. Scalise, commanding officer of MCLB Barstow.

It shows people what this base can provide; and that is imperative to keep morale high, added Scalise.

“(Aside from building camaraderie) Another purpose of the fall festival is to put a face with the names of the programs and facilities offered by MCCS and the base,” said Silva.

It lets the people behind these programs get to know the people they are serving, and interact with them face to face, Silva added.

Services like the fire department, police department, and Child Development Center, all had booths set up with games or interactive displays, explained Silva.

The family restaurant on base catered the event while the Single Marine Program sold sodas and root beer floats to raise money for SMP activities and events.

The inflatable obstacle course, mechanical bull, and the stage coach ride, were the most popular, explained Silva.

Approximately 500 people turned out for the event, which was right around the amount MCCS hoped for, Silva added. Overall, it was a success.

Scalise said he was also happy with this year’s turnout.

“When you can sit back and see the (large) amount of people having a good time, it makes events like the fall festival invaluable,” said Scalise.

Upcoming MCCS events to look out for are the Halloween Haunt slated to be held Oct. 24, and the base Christmas party slated to be held Dec. 12, said Silva.

Both events are scheduled to be held in the Maj. Gen. James L. Day Conference Center here.
