MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. - The Marine Corps Aviation Association hosted the 4th Annual 1,000 Springs Ranch Golf Scramble along with a social event and silent auction in support of the Semper Fi Fund and was able to raise $115,000 aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., Sept. 19 and 20.
There were approximately 100 participants at the golf scramble who came out and enjoyed refreshments and food and contributed to the silent auction to raise awareness and funding for the Semper Fi Fund.
The Semper Fi Fund provides relief for financial needs that arise during hospitalization and recovery for injured veterans. This fundraising also allows the Semper Fi Fund to donate equipment to disabled veterans.
The social event and silent auction, held at MCAS Miramar Commissioned Officers’ Club, allowed the Semper Fi Fund to donate Action Trackchairs to two injured veterans. The MCAA was able to raise enough money at the event to donate an additional three trackchairs.
The trackchairs will help wounded veterans traverse terrain that would otherwise be difficult like participating in the freedoms of hunting, hiking, fishing, going to the beach and other similar activities.
“I was an outdoor-type person before, so this affords me more of an opportunity to be able to get out and experience new things”, said retired Cpl. Jon Schumacher, wounded veteran and father of two. “I’m blessed that organizations like the Semper Fi Fund is able to do that for us.”
This will be the fifth year the MCAA has raised donations for the Semper Fi Fund.
“I can think of no more worthy cause than raising money for those who have given a lot for our country,” Col. Rick Uribe, squadron commander, MCAA Marion Carl Squadron.
The MCAA was able to raise a total of $195,000 over the past five years with the help of many generous donations. This contribution has aided the Semper Fi Fund in helping many wounded veterans in their time of need.
