NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, awarded a contract Aug. 28 to a Belleville, Ill., small business for potable water system repairs at NASA's Langley Research Center, located in Hampton, Va.

BCI Construction USA, Inc. will perform the repairs.

The $5.2 million contract includes new emergency connections, replacement of existing raw water pumps, repair of the existing water tower, installation of advanced water meters, and replacement of deteriorated underground cast iron water pipes and shutoff valves, according to Suzanne Spence, Norfolk District project manager.

Contractors are scheduled to begin work in October and the project should be complete in February 2015.

Norfolk District's support to NASA's Langley facility is part of a five-year Master Support Agreement signed in December 2012, a partnership that's "... critically important for the execution of Langley's 20-Year Revitalization Plan to enable the NASA mission," said Cathy Mangum, director of center operations for NASA Langley Research Center.

NASA’s Langley Research Center is a world-renowned research, science, technology and development center located in Hampton, Va. Established in 1917, the center has a 95-year history of making significant contributions to the Nation and world in the areas of air mobility and safety, exploring space and characterizing Earth’s changing climate.
