NORTH LAS VEGAS - Six Nevada Army Guard soldiers were commissioned as second lieutenants on Aug. 9 during a ceremony here at the North Las Vegas Readiness Center.
The newly-commissioned officers included Felicia Booth, Michael Bryson, John Lorman, Jeff Sison, Michelle Tucay and Karen Williamson. The officers were from Officer Candidate School Class 60 and had participated in the Accelerated Officer Candidate School program this summer.
The new officers will be employed in a variety of career fields including ordnance, signal and armor.
The commissioning ceremony marked the conclusion of a lengthy process for the six new officers, said Officer Candidate School noncommissioned officer-in-charge Master Sgt. Gregory Backus. Before attending the Accelerated Officer Candidate School, they expereienced a pre-OCS course that included subjects such as physical fitness, troop leading procedures, operation orders, drill and ceremony and land navigation.
Bryson has a strong tie to military officers; his father was a surface warfare officer in the Navy and attained the rank of lieutenant commander.
The commissioning ceremony was the first held at the new North Las Vegas Readiness Center. The center opened in May.
