JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - Kids and parents gathered to enjoy the mystery of magic at the Marine Corps Air Station New River theater for the air station’s sixth annual Kid’s Day, Aug. 21.

Three free performances of the magic show were held throughout the day, leaving kids and adults alike wondering whether or not their eyes were playing tricks on them.

“It was really cool,” said sixth-grader Matthew Kulbis, son of Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 26 Chief Warrant Officer 4 Edward C. Kulbis. “My favorite trick was the rope one.”

The first 150 children in line for each of the performances received a tote of free school supplies.

Kulbis was one of 500 children attending the Kids Day to benefit from the goody bags.

“I got pens, pencils, a pencil sharpener, erasers and stuff,” said Kulbis. “It is good to have. I’m excited to go back to school.”

Brittany Strickland, Marine Corps Community Services commercial sponsorship coordinator, said the Kids Day was a fun and helpful back-to-school event.

“It is a great way to give back to the families that support us throughout the year,” Strickland said. “If they are happy, then we are happy.”

Sponsors including Boeing, Wendy’s and Duke Energy helped to make the event possible, Strickland said.

“We work with a great group of people here in the community,” she said.
