TACOMA, Wash. – Sailors assigned to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) took part in a military appreciation parade in Tacoma, Wash., Aug. 24.

The parade was a chance for the Sailors to represent not only the Stennis and the Navy, but also the Kitsap Peninsula community.

“I wanted to set an example for sailors and represent the command in a positive way,” said Logistics Specialist 1st Class Jennifer Cunningham, from Bloomington, Ill.

Last performed in the 1950s, the military appreciation parade gave Sailors a unique and exciting opportunity to connect with the greater northwest community.

“It means a lot to know we [Stennis] are appreciated for everything we do,” said Electrician’s Mate 3rd Class Erin Griffin, from Savannah, Ga.

Stennis, home ported in Bremerton, Wash., is currently undergoing a Docked Planned Incremental Availability maintenance period at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility.
