Marawara district governor lauds ALP for improved security
KUNAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan- In a live radio broadcast aired on 102.1 FM Kunar Radio Aug. 12, Marawara district Governor Hamish Gulab Shinwari attributed security gains in the province to Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and Afghan Local Police (ALP).
Afghan Local Police compliment counterinsurgency efforts by assisting and supporting areas with limited security forces. ALP integration enables conditions for improved security, governance, and development.
“Before the ALP, security was not very good,” said Shinwari. “The people of Marawara were faced with problems like kidnappings, and they could not live in a peaceful environment.
“The problems we have in Marawara district are being solved by the ALP and other Afghan Forces. Day by day we are slowly going forward.”
The district governor continued stressing that insurgent killing of innocent people and attempting to disrupt the peace process will not detour progress.
“Right now, with the ALP, the people are living in a peaceful environment,” Shinwari said, crediting ALP commander Mohammed Wali Khan for the recent security improvements.
Shinwari also highlighted seven approved development projects for the district, particularly the school repairs in Lahor Dag.
“We have a lot of projects planned for the next couple of years,” he explained. “Repairing Lahor Dag is one, and we are also building a few more schools.”
Shinwari called for an end to fighting and stressed education as the best way for people to improve their lives.
“We cannot build our country by fighting, but we can through education,” he said. “Let’s work for peace until we see a good Afghanistan.”
