ATLANTA - Defense Contract Management Agency Atlanta hosted a brown bag lunch last month featuring a presentation by representatives of NISH, a national organization which creates employment opportunities for people with disabilities. The group included Chuck Guta, a former DCMA Atlanta commander who now serves as the non-profit’s Army key account manager.
NISH leaders presented DCMA Atlanta employees the history of the non-profit, from its seeds in the Wagner-O’Day Act of 1938 to the AbilityOne Commission of 2011. They also gave many examples of the work being done by employees with significant disabilities, and explained the process for identifying items for addition to the Procurement List of Products maintained by the AbilityOne Program.
NISH was incorporated in 1974 to create employment opportunities for people with significant disabilities. The organization has a national network of 550 non-profit partners that fulfills contracting needs for the federal government, government contractors and commercial business. NISH will soon transition to a new name, SourceAmerica.
Following the NISH presentation, DCMA Atlanta senior leaders gave the non-profit representatives an overview of the agency’s organization and mission.
