    8th Theater Sustainment Command

SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii – Family members, friends and fellow service members gathered on Hamilton Field, Friday, May 31, for a colors casing ceremony to wish their friends, spouses, and loved ones of the 524th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 45th Sustainment Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command, a fond farewell before the battalion deploys to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom later this month.

After learning they were tagged for deployment, the battalion has steadily prepared to depart for Afghanistan for more than a year. Many training exercises, classes, organizing, and qualifications later, the unit is ready to tackle the challenges that await them in familiar territory.

“We begin this next rendezvous with the 101st Sustainment Brigade with a heavy heart and eager anticipation,” said Lt. Col. James Droppelman, the commander of the 524th CSSB. “In the past, we’ve provided rock solid sustainment support to multiple units throughout (the Pacific Command). We look forward to sustaining the force with lightning support while making our way through any and all challenges to safely make our way back home.”

The 524th CSSB has proudly supported Operation Enduring Freedom throughout the years, beginning in 2004.

Their efforts center around supplies, water purification, signal support, transportation, finance, shower and laundry, clothing repair, and ocean born transport to enable the war fighter.

“In some fashion, we supported every joint exercise within PACOM, and every support mission was completed successfully,” said Droppelman “The standard we’ve achieved is quite an accomplishment.”

After the ceremony many well wishes and blessings were said. The battalion has a long journey ahead of them, but is solidly prepared to provide outstanding sustainment support downrange.
