TIKRIT, Iraq – In response to enemy fire from the Al Hussiniyah mosque in Old Baqubah, Iraq, June 9, Iraqi army and coalition force soldiers returned fire and used attack helicopters armed with Hellfire missiles to suppress enemy fire coming from inside the mosque. Iraqi army and coaltion forces immediately began to receive heavy small-arms fire after engaging the compound. Combined forces cordoned off the area around the mosque and cleared the compound.

Iraqi police and coalition forces concluded their searched of the mosque with no additional reports of anti-Iraqi forces or weapons.

"Iraqi security forces performed their duties very well during this combined operation," said Lt. Col. Quinton J. Arnold, deputy brigade commander for 3-1 Cav. "ISF [Iraqi security forces] and CF [coalition forces] will continue to clear Diyala province for the safety of its citizens," said Arnold.
