KHAKREZ DISTRICT, Afghanistan – An insurgent-emplaced improvised explosive device exploded, killing two civilians and wounding two others in the vicinity of Arowgh village, Khakrez district, Kandahar province, May 27.
“The government of Kandahar and the Afghan government strongly condemn these kinds of attacks on innocent civilians and Afghan National Security Forces and innocent civilians,” said the Kandahar Provincial Gov. Tooryalai Wesa.
“This senseless act of insurgent activity resulted in unnecessary tragedy and once again displays a complete disregard for human life.”
The blast also killed an ALP member and wounded an ALP checkpoint commander.
Afghan Local Police members treated the wounded before transporting them to a nearby coalition forces team, who provided continued medical care to the injured.
The wounded ALP Checkpoint Commander Assasadullah Khan was evacuated to Kandahar for further medical treatment. No additional information about the victims’ condition is known at this time.
The Taliban considers Afghan National Security Forces the most significant threat to their activities. Attacks such as these on the Afghan people demonstrate the insurgency’s concern over the strength of ANSF.
