GREAT FALLS, Mont.—Two non-commissioned officers and eight senior non-commissioned officers were inducted into the 120th Fighter Wing’s NCO Corps at a ceremony held during the Unit Training Assembly April 7.
120th Fighter Wing leadership believes it’s important to recognize the newly promoted E-5s and E-7s for the added duties and responsibilities they will assume in their new positions within the NCO ranks.
“This is such a special day for many people. It shows that their career has broadened and they’ve reached these milestones in their career,” said Master Sgt. Jon Gunter, the Montana Air National Guard Retention Office Manager, who served as the master of ceremonies during the event.
“It’s so great to be part of these types of events and really express my sincere gratitude to these airmen on a job well done,” he said.
During the ceremony, the NCOs and senior NCOs listened to their creed read by a member of their respective corps, then raised their hands and recited their oaths in unison. Each newly-inducted NCO was presented a Certificate of Induction by 120th Fighter Wing Command Chief Master Sgt. Timothy Huffman.
The ceremony was attended by many family members and coworkers of the honored NCOs.
Logistics Readiness Squadron member Master Sgt. Richard Heffley looks forward to the new opportunities provided by his promotion and the progression into the next stage of his career. His wife, son and daughter attended the event which was held in the 120th Fighter Wing’s Larsen Room.
“I truly feel it’s important because it gives the NCO a sense of responsibility. It gives them a sense of accomplishment. It lets them feel like they’re doing a good job in their daily duties and I just think it’s a great opportunity,” said Heffley.
Master Sgt. David Myers, an Aircraft Structural Maintenance Craftsman, appreciated the support that was shown to the newly appointed NCOs and senior NCOs. Several members of his section showed up to show their respect.
“I was actually surprised by the turnout. I didn’t expect that many people really to show up, but it just shows that people of the 120th really care about their people and were showing their support,” Myers said.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, all of the newly inducted NCOs and senior NCOs stood in a reception line to be greeted and wished well by Wing leadership, unit members and their guests.
“I was truly honored to participate in the ceremony today, to be a part of the heritage and move forward with the 120th Fighter Wing,” said Myers.
Gunter says that the unit conducts regular NCO and senior NCO recognition ceremonies that are scheduled to coincide with the airmen promotion cycles in effect at the 120th Fighter Wing.
