SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. – This week’s Third Army/ARCENT Soldier of the Week is Spc. Sandra P. Prieto, Third Army/ARCENT headquarters and headquarters command specialist. The Queens, N.Y., native entered into the U.S. Army as an active duty soldier a few months after graduating from high school in 2009.
Since entering the U.S. Army, Prieto conquered many challenges; her first was learning to speak English as her first language is Spanish, born into a Columbian and Puerto Rican heritage. Prieto used the “challenge” to drive her competitive spirit to be the best soldier she could be.
“I am the only female that runs with my platoon and I love it because I like to show them that females can meet the physical demands of a soldier just as much as the males,” said Prieto. Within her four years of active duty service, Prieto has served in Operation Enduring Freedom.
Q: What is your favorite movie genre?
A: Comedy and scary. Sometimes I want to laugh, other times I want to scream.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Italian is my favorite food, I love pasta.
Q: What are your goals?
A: To get promoted to sergeant soon.
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: I’m proud of my independence. I work hard at what I do.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: Modeling is my passion and massage therapy, but I also like to box.
Q: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want with you?
A: Extra clothing, a lighter to make fire and Trey Songz.
Q: If you could spend one hour with anyone, who would it be and why?
A: My dad because I haven’t seen him in years.
