FORT STEWART, Ga. - Now that football is over, it’s time to turn our attention to something else. Before you go into a deep depression over not having football in your life, let me remind you of the other sports that are ready to grab your attention.
First, there are two major sporting events in the next two weeks: the NBA All-Star game this weekend followed by the Daytona 500 next weekend.
If that’s not enough, spring training has begun and the Major League Baseball season will begin at the end of March.
Speaking of March, I can’t wait till March Madness starts, the best three weeks of sports next to the Olympics. The National Hockey League season has started for you who watch hockey. And, finally, for golf lovers, there is a golf tournament on TV almost every weekend leading up to the Masters, which is the first week of April.
If you’re still not satisfied, you can always turn on the NFL Network and watch all of the football game replays and other football-related shows they offer, such as the NFL Combine and pre-draft shows.
As for the next two weekends of sporting events, which event do you think will get the most viewers out of the NASCAR race and the NBA All-Star game?
I know what I’ll be watching: the Daytona 500. Personally, NASCAR has passed the NBA in my top-five favorite sports.
I really can’t get into the NBA as a whole anymore like I use to. I do have a few favorite players I follow during the season, mostly Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. But, for the most part, I don’t start watching the NBA until the last games of the finals.
How can you take the NBA and its All-Star weekend serious? Can you name anyone in the dunk contest or the skills contest?
As for the All-Star game, how can it be an All-Star game when only half of the teams are represented in the game? To me, a true All-Star game would have at least one player from each team. I mean, why not? The players who actually play in the game don’t take it serious.
It wouldn’t hurt the NBA to expand the rosters and allow the fans to see a few players they may not otherwise see because no one watches the losing teams in the NBA. I’m sure teams such as Charlotte have at least one good player who could play in the All-Star game.

One thing that may only interest me, last week marked the birthdays of two legendary home run-hitting baseball players on consecutive days. On Feb. 5, Hank Aaron celebrated his 79th birthday. The following day, Babe Ruth would have celebrated his 118th birthday. They’re number two and three on the all-time list with 755 and 714 and two of only three men with more than 700 career home runs.
