It’s good to be an Alabama fan today.
In the last issue, I predicted that Notre Dame would beat Alabama, but it was the Fighting Irish who got thumped. The “Roll Tide” is rolling with three national championships in four years.
It’s hard to win a championship at any level of sports; to do it three out of four years is amazing.
With that being said, it’s my duty to put the brakes on this Alabama overload.
Winning three college football championships in four years has been done before. Nebraska did it in the 1990s, and we know where they stand now. In other words, you ‘Bama fans should enjoy this now because, trust me, someone other than your team will eventually win the championship.
After watching several sporting events this past weekend, there are a couple of things I have come to realize.
The Los Angeles Clippers are a pretty good basketball team. Beating Alabama wasn’t a fluke; Texas A&M is a really good football team and I can see them dominating the Southeastern Conference the next few years. More on that later.
News agencies were reporting this weekend that Lance Armstrong was thinking about admitting he used performance enhancing drugs during his racing career. How is thinking about admitting it different from actually admitting it?
Are you excited about the return of the National Hockey League? Do you care? I know someone out there cares that professional hockey is back in action. There will be 48 regular-season games beginning next week.
Bold sports predictions for 2013
Now that the college football season is over, it’s not too soon to think about the next one. I was watching ESPN the other day and they had two college football coaches on discussing this year’s championship game. The irony I saw in this was these two men are the coaches of the two teams I think will face each other in next year’s championship game. The two teams are Ohio State and Texas A&M.
The next big sporting event of the year will be the Super Bowl and predicting the Atlanta Falcons will play the Denver Broncos.
The Big Ten will have at least two teams in the college basketball’s Final Four. My guess is it will be Michigan and Indiana. I hate picking Michigan for anything.
Does anyone not believe the Miami Heat will be in the NBA Finals?
They will, but my surprise team to also be in the finals is the Los Angeles Clippers. Don’t laugh, they’re pretty good, I saw them this weekend.
In Major League Baseball, expect the Detroit Tigers and the Atlanta Braves to play in the World Series.
Tiger Woods will win at least one major golf tournament this summer.
Dale Jr. will win more than one race this season and complete for the championship, but Jimmy Johnson will win his sixth overall NASCAR championship.
Don’t expect Tim Tebow to be a starting quarterback in the NFL next year.
And finally, Brett Favre will win the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year. Just kidding.
