Lt. Scott Bender of Casa Grande, AZ, signs paperwork that will turn over custody of a Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 17 builtman combat outpost located in the Iraqi desert to the Iraqi army. NMCB-17, also known as the "Desert Battalion" homeported at Fort Carson, Colorado, is deployed to Iraq and other areas of operations supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
