(July 22, 2026) Retired Army Chief Warrant Officer Philip Brashear visits Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) to speak during an event honoring the legacy of his father Master Chief Carl Brashear, July 22, 2026. The event honored Carl Brashear, who was the first African-American Navy diver, and later became the first African American to earn the title "master diver," but not before losing part of his left leg saving another Sailor.
