260717-N-JC439- NORFOLK (July 17, 2026) SIMA Norfolk Sailors receive over-the-shoulder training on programing the DMG LASERTEC 65 3D to fabricate a critical repair part from Trevor Pool, additive manufacturing engineer at Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA) Norfolk. This collaboration between civilian industry and military personnel bridges technical knowledge gaps and equips the fleet with cutting-edge repair capabilities. The U.S. Navy reestablished SIMA commands in Norfolk and San Diego in June. The reestablishment directly supports the Navy's vision of utilizing a responsive, Sailor-led force to optimize materiel readiness while building Sailors' technical expertise and fleet self-sufficiency.
